You’ve enjoyed picking up a fresh delicious smoothie from your favorite shop for years. You’ve thought to yourself many times “I need to try making my own smoothie at home, I bet it would be delicious”. And you are probably right. However, it doesn’t always work out that way. Many a DIY smoothie maker have been disappointed in their product, threw their hands up, and decided that they will leave it to the experts. But it doesn’t have to be like that.
Here is some free and friendly advice when it comes to creating your own delicious smoothies at home.
That blender you have had for 20 years may not be up to the job. You know that blender which used to be egg white in color but now looks kind of yellowish? That one. If the outside of the blender looks decayed, then imagine what the inner working parts look like? They could very well be in bad working order.
Don’t be afraid to check out some of the newer blender products on the market. They have some really great ones which go for under 75 bucks. They are 2 to 3 times better than that older blender you have, even when it was new.
It goes without saying that you get out of you smoothie what you put into it. If you put wilting vegetables and soggy fruits in there then I can guarantee that your smoothie won’t taste good. Instead, try to make your smoothie the same day that you buy the fruit from the store. Even 24 hours later it should still be fine. But waiting 2+ days to finally make your smoothie may end with lackluster results.
When it comes to how you add ingredients to the blender, order and ratio are important. Remember the golden ratios:
Having the right mix of the right foods can really make your smoothie come to life. The wrong mix can really upset the flavor profile.
Your daily smoothie can be used as a meal replacement if you are trying to lose weight or get healthier. Instead of the 600-900 calorie value meal from a fast-food joint, consider replacing it with a delicious smoothie which normally top out at 400 calories.
All calories are not the same. Calories from fresh fruits, nuts and vegetables are packed with the vitamins and minerals your body needs to keep going. A sloppy cheeseburger may sound satisfying but you are getting a ton of salt and fat, not exactly what the doctor would order for you.
You can start the day with a modest breakfast like eggs and protein, consume a healthy smoothie for lunch and then finish the day with a salad and a chicken breast or lean steak. It’s all about balance and knowing what your body needs vs what you crave. This combo will keep you well under the caloric count needed to drop those extra pounds. For men that is under 2200 calories and for women that is under 1900 calories.
