The pandemic which has wrecked the economy and countless lives is finally starting to get under control. This is because the vaccines which were developed are being administered at a rapid pace, up to 3 million per day in fact.

We have definitely seen our share of coronavirus damage in the OBX. The limited number of people allowed here in 2020 put a bit of a strain on our health as well as our microeconomy. As recently as December, area hospitals were full.

The season technically begins next month and we expect pretty close to normal roll out. A third of all Americans will be vaccinated by early next month. In November, it as estimated that 15% of Americans had already had Covid. That number now is probably more like 20-25%. This means that half of all Americans will be protected against the virus in April 2021. These numbers are not good enough for “herd immunity” but they sure decrease the likelihood that the other half of the population will get coronavirus.

There will still be social distancing and mask mandates for stores and restaurants for the foreseeable future. Stay tuned for updates from Island Smoothie as to whether we will be allowing in-store dining. Updates should be coming very soon.

We will have our usual compliment of delicious smoothies and fruit bowls. There may be some items added to the menu this year as well. As always, we appreciate your patronage and hope to see you this summer. Surfs up!
