If you are a regular visitor to the Outer Banks in North Carolina, you know that surfing is a way of life for many people here. If you are aspiring to become a surfer or are visiting the Outer Banks for the first time, please check this information out:

We have compiled a short list of the best surfing spots in the OBX. Surfing lessons are available for newbies and rentals can be found at various places as well.

Rodanthe Pier – A popular area in the south that attracts many visitors and locals alike. This area has good surf but can get pretty crowded in peak season.

Avon Pier – Another popular spot for surfers. The area is home to a vacation home community.

Buxton – Buxton is home to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. The newer lighthouse is just hundreds of feet from where the original one was located.

Hatteras – Stone jetties help create excellent breaks for surfing. There are many local surfing competition held here and Hatteras is often mentioned as a major surfing location by people throughout the country.

Frisco Pier – This is also a top surfing location for locals and visitors. The pier has been in decline in recent years, however, because of severe weather including two major hurricanes.

Ocracoke Island – has miles of surfable coastline and is a favorite of surfers especially after a summer storm. There is plenty of parking and life guards are on duty much of the time.
