We can tend to overdo it sometimes. Whether it be cookouts in the summer or high-calorie holiday dinners, the calories can sure add up fast. This tends to result in weight gain.

If you have gotten into some bad eating habits and want to drop weight, check out these steps to modifying your eating habits. They have been proven to work for many people.

Set Smaller Goals that are Easier to Achieve

Choose a goal that will offer a challenge but is not unrealistic. The recommended daily calorie intake for a man is 2500 calories for men and 2200 calories for women. Set up a calorie journal and simply try to stay at or below these daily recommendations. Being aware of the numbers and proving to yourself you can control intake is the valuable lesson gained here.

Mix in Healthier Foods

Pick one meal of the day to eat nothing but healthy foods. Perhaps have a salad with grilled chicken for lunch. Or have a delicious fruit smoothie for breakfast. Healthy foods have less calories and are easier on your system. They also contain the nutrients you need to look and feel good.

Cut Out Red Meats for a While

Take a week off of red meat. See how you feel. Perhaps pick one week per month that you eat zero red meat. It’s not that red meat is bad. It’s that the current American diet contains way more than it should.

Don’t want to do an entire week? Take every other day off of red meat for the entire month. Red meat is rich in fat and calories. It can really pack on the pounds.
